Tim previews Sunday's 11-race card at Sha Tin - live on Sky Sports Racing.

Up to £40 in bonus funds

传奇sfWe have a competitive looking meeting from Sha Tin this Sunday with 11 races on the card, featuring both turf and dirt events. Race 4, The Purves Quaich Handicap (7.00am) over 1 mile and Race 8, The Arculli Handicap (9.05am) over 6 furlongs are both valuable Class 2 handicaps. Whilst neither sees a full field, both have attracted quality runners and look open on paper.

The card gets underway at 5.30am and you can catch all the action live on Sky Sports Racing.

传奇sfWith just nine meetings to go until the end of the season, Joao Moreira trails Championship leader Zac Purton by just three winners for the right to be crowned this season’s top rider. Whilst in the Trainers’ Championship, Ricky Yiu is only five wins clear of Francis Lui with both Tony Cruz and John Moore still in with a shout. Moore currently sits in fourth spot just eight winners off the pace.

My Each-Way (EW) play on the card is PRECIOUS SWEETIE who runs in Race 5, The Class 4Swaine Cup (Handicap) (7.30am) over 7 furlongs.

I’m taking a bit of a swing here with the selection who steps up to 7 furlongs for just the second time and the first time in over 18 months. However, he has been seen working home in a few of his race recently and looks worth a try back at this trip.

传奇sfThere’s not a lot of speed on offer here and the Peter Ho 5yo should be able to grab a handy position on the front end from the draw in 4, in a race where a few of the market principles are likely to be closer last than first in the run.

Mathew Poon, who rode a four-timer at the last Sha Tin meeting, claims a handy 2lb meaning the selection effectively runs from a 3lb lower mark than when last winning and in a race that should set up perfectly, the selection looks a decent each-way play, hopefully at a good price.

My Next Best on the card is ABOVE who runs in Race 7, The Class 3 Li Cup (Handicap) (8.35am) over 9 furlongs.

传奇sfJohn Moore’s 4yo has disappointed when in the betting at his last two, but both those spins were at Happy Valley and although he has won at the city track, he looks so much better when he gets onto the bigger course at Sha Tin where three of his four wins have come.

The selection was last seen at Sha Tin in March when he slammed a Class 4 field to the tune of 6 lengths. On that occasion he had Defining Moments (4), who is likely to be at the top of the betting here, over 6 lengths behind in third, and today the selection is 9lb better off.

To prove that was no fluke, he also finished well ahead of Defining Moments in their previous meeting. Given that his rival has won three of his last four and came out and won over course and distance last time with a few of these in behind, the form has a very nice look to it.

My best bet (Nap) on the card is CHEVALIER PRINCE, who runs Race 9, The Class 4 Chan Trophy (Handicap)传奇sf (9.35am) over 7 furlongs.

Frankie Lor’s 3yo was only having his second spin when runner-up as favourite over course and distance last time in a race that backers would still be having nightmares over.

I’m not sure what the connections intentions where that day but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t to see him out the back with the washing after being poleaxed coming out of the gates. However, the fun didn’t end there with the selection then having to check off heels from a wayward rival.

传奇sfMeanwhile, the eventual winner was having a good time off it on the front end, whilst Chevalier Prince showed plenty of courage to run on and finish second from the rear, despite all the trouble and the race being run to suit those toward the lead.

传奇sfThis time, the race maps for the selection to be out the back, although I think Purton will probably look to ride him a bit closer than some may suggest.

Provided he gets the breaks and has fully recovered from a tough second-outing, Chevalier Prince, who looks destined for higher grades, should go awfully close to winning this.

REMAINDER OF THE CARD

Race 1 - The Chairmen’s Plate (5.30am) - 5 furlongs

HongKong Harmony is a debutant from the Douglas Whyte yard who has only had the one trial to date and stuck on nicely when less than 2 lengths behind the winner. Barrier trials are just that, but this well-bred son of Shamardal, who will sport blinkers, is in good hands and will benefit from 10lb claim for Jerry Chau.

CHANCHENG PRINCE is the obvious pick having been placed in all three Griffin races to date including last time out over 6 furlongs when he had all of these bar the debutant, well beaten in behind.

The closest of the trio that day was the 2yo filly Tinker Belle who showed a bit of speed, thus the drop in trip should help. However, the selection stands out on form, but do keep an eye on the market for any positive moves for HongKong Harmony.

Race 2 - Class 5 Ryrie Handicap (6.00am) - 7 furlongs

We have class droppers aplenty here with no less than nine of these (1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10) all dropping down from Class 4 company. Both Diamond Legend (1) and Vital Spring (5) were winners when last seen at this level. Bundle Of Energy has run well in defeat all season and it’s a positive that Moreira has stuck with the David Hall runner, but a concern that he is still a maiden after 22 starts.

SHANGHAI DRAGON drops to this level for the first time and ran well over course and distance last time when picking up the bronze medal in behind a promising unexposed sort from the Frankie Lor yard.

传奇sfOn that occasion they pressed forward with him, and it’s likely they will employ the same tactics here. Connections have elected to use 10lb claimer Jerry Chau, thus the selection runs from an 11lb lower mark.

传奇sfNeedless to say if he can reproduce his last effort, he should go close.

Race 3 - Class 4 Macwhinnie (Handicap) (6.30am) - 5 furlongs

Dublin Star landed a well-deserved victory last time out and looks the main danger to the selection despite the 7lb hike in the handicap. Comfort Life was runner-up to Dublin Star last time and meets that one 6lb better off. Noble Birth and Universal Record are both debutants, with the pair having won barrier trials last month.

FABULOUS EIGHT传奇sf goes off top weight having gone up 2lb for finishing second over course and distance last time out to a hugely promising debutant that was smashed in the betting. On that occasion the selection was 3 lengths clear of the third horse Super Kin, who lines up here but is only 2lb better off.

Ricky Yiu’s 4yo has drawn favourably in 13, the same stall he jumped from when winning two back and Moreira takes the ride once again.

Race 4 - Class 2 Perves Quaich Handicap (7.00am) - 1 mile

传奇sfTime To Celebrate was last seen in Group 3 company and looks a major player here given the last time he went around at this level he was only beaten a short head, and with the claim of Alfred Chan is 6lb better off.

Monica is better than we saw last time when he bombed after playing up in the stalls.  Lakeshore Eagle is a very likeable progressive type who has won his last two and found plenty for pressure when he made a sweeping early move last time, but does go into this grade for the first time.

Assimilate had the selection back in second when powering home from the rear last time but is unlikely to get the same sort of tempo here.

RIGHT CHOICE 传奇sfhasn’t quite lived up to last season’s promise, however he did produce a very good effort when runner up to Assimilate last time and meets that one 3lb better off for a narrow margin defeat. There’s not a great deal of speed in this and the selection should be able to grab a forward position, which looks the place to be.

Plus, the selection hasn’t had a lot of luck with the barrier draw recently, having drawn high gates in five of his last six spins but should have a far more straight forward task today from the draw in 4.

Race 6 - Class 4 Wong Cup (Handicap) (8.00am) - 6 furlongs (Dirt)

Star Luck drops down to this level for the first time in over a year, and has won two from four starts in this class on the dirt. Good Shot shaped with plenty of promise when winning on just his second outing prior not enjoying a great deal of luck last time, but does go onto the dirt for the first time.

Little Thunder won here over course and distance on his penultimate start and has run with merit all three spins on the dirt. Super Alliances hasn’t had a lot of luck a couple of times lately and looks dangerously handicapped for his first try on dirt.

GUNNAR has been a bit frustrating of late with four recent placed efforts, but put in an eye-catching run last time when grabbing the silver medal over course and distance in behind an in form rival. When claims are taken into consideration the selection is on 5lb better terms here, plus he’s drawn a more favourable gate this time for a horse who likes to go forward.

传奇sfThere is plenty of speed on offer, so Jerry Chau will need to have his wits about him, but Caspar Fownes’s 4yo took a sit last time, proving that he’s no one trick pony.

Race 8 - Class 2 Acrulli Trophy (Handicap) (9.05am) - 6 furlongs (Dirt)

Ugly Warrior has struggled to recapture his form after a trip to Seoul last year but is a smart performer on the dirt, and makes his return here from a layoff with a two from two first up record.

传奇sfGunnison is a classy individual who can run to his best form on both the turf and dirt, however he hasn’t won for over 18 months. Fantasy is a progressive type who steps into Class 2 for the first time, but does make his dirt debut.

WILL POWER 传奇sflast run is easy enough to forgive given it was his first time on turf and his first try at 7 furlongs. Here, he returns to the dirt track where he has won three from five and drops back to his favoured 6 furlongs.

Last time he was seen on the dirt he did finish one spot behind Gunnison when a beaten favourite. But they weren’t making up ground that night, plus he is slightly better off at the weights this time, and Douglas Whyte’s 4yo has plenty of scope for further improvement.

Race 10 - Class 3 Stevenson Cup (Handicap) (10.10am) - 6 furlongs (Dirt)

Sunny Boy drops back down in grade and his two runs on dirt thus far have been solid.  Mega Heart was a course and distance winner two back, and with Jerry Chau’s 10lb claim is 5lb better off here. California Concord goes up 5lb for winning last time when having just his second local spin when he had six of these in behind.

NAMJONG SINGS ran his best race to date when just under 2 lengths behind California Concord last time. They tried him from the front for the first time and looking at the splits he overcooked it in the early part of the race. He was right there until very late in the piece and he meets the winner 7lb better off this time around.

The selection has drawn perfectly for another shot from the front and with the claim, is in receipt of 9lb to 25lbs from the rest of the field.

Race 11 - Class 3 IP Jug Cup (Handicap) (10.15am) - 6 furlongs

传奇sfBe Ready has been placed four of his last five starts but three of those were over 5 furlongs and Purton has jumped off to ride Mig Energy, who has drawn a decent gate this time around and should get a soft run in transit.

传奇sfPrivate Council will be having his first local spin having won two from four in Australia and ran with promise in a recent barrier trial. Unique Treasure looks a threat from the good draw if able to repeat his effort from last time when a slightly unlucky runner up.

PRESIDENTS CHOICE is a well-bred progressive 4yo who won two on the bounce prior running second to another smart prospect last time out with a couple of these in behind. He has drawn toward the outside for this but oddly enough that may be beneficial. Both his wins have come over course and distance when they have ridden him quietly from high draws.

The selection has only had five runs to date, thus he’s open to further improvement and only goes up 2lb in the handicap.
